This Cairo day trip from Makadi Bay by minivan is a private tour for groups of up to 8 people: one air-conditioned minivan, one Egyptologist guide, and a full day at the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. It is a long day, about 18 to 22 hours door to door, with 5 to 7 hours on the road each way, and your group travels together the whole time.
Eight people in one vehicle changes the day for the better. Nobody waits for a second car, the guide talks to the whole group at once, and the cost of the vehicle and guide is shared between you. You are collected together from your Makadi Bay hotel, between 00:30 and 04:00, and you stay together until you are dropped at the same door in the evening.
At Giza your Egyptologist walks the group around the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure and the Great Sphinx. After lunch you spend the afternoon in the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the full Tutankhamun collection is displayed together. We plan the day around a group: one head-count, one meeting point, and a rest stop whenever someone needs one. If you are fewer or more than eight, ask us and we will tell you what works

How the day runs 1. 00:30: pickup at your hotel The minivan collects your whole group from the hotel lobby. The exact time depends on your hotel, and we confirm it with you the day before. Please have everyone ready a few minutes early so the group leaves together, and ask reception for breakfast boxes the evening before, because there is no time for a sit-down breakfast at this hour. 2. On the road: about 5 to 7 hours This is the longest part of the day, and the quietest. Most groups sleep for the first stretch, so bring a light jacket or a travel pillow. We stop once for coffee, a bathroom break and a chance to stretch your legs, and your driver will stop again if someone needs it. The exact time depends on traffic and checkpoints. 3. Mid-morning: Giza, the Pyramids and the Sphinx You arrive at Giza and your Egyptologist meets the group. The Pyramids and the Sphinx come first, while you still have energy for the walking. Your guide takes you around the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, then to the Sphinx, with time for photos. If someone wants to go inside the Great Pyramid, tell the guide early, because that ticket is extra. 4. Midday: lunch for the whole group You sit down together at a local restaurant. It is the first proper rest since the road, and a good moment to talk through what you have seen and what you want to spend more time on in the museum. Tell us about any dietary needs beforehand [confirm]. 5. Afternoon: the Grand Egyptian Museum After lunch you go to the museum next to the Giza plateau, where the full Tutankhamun collection is displayed together. Your guide walks the group through the main galleries and explains the pieces, so you leave with the story behind them and not only the photos. If the group wants more time in one gallery, say so, because the tour is private and the pace is yours. 6. 21:00 to 22:00: back at your hotel The drive home is quiet, and most people doze. The minivan drops the whole group at your Makadi Bay hotel between 21:00 and 22:00, depending on the pickup time and the traffic.
The Giza Pyramids. You walk up to the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, then on to the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. Your guide explains how they were built, who built them, and why the Valley Temple matters. If you want to go inside the Great Pyramid, tell us in advance: it costs extra and the passages are narrow and low.
The Great Sphinx. Carved from a ridge of limestone, it sits just below the plateau. Plan on photos and a few minutes to take in the scale.
The Grand Egyptian Museum. Built beside the plateau, the GEM displays the full Tutankhamun collection together. Your guide walks you through the main galleries and the Tutankhamun halls, explaining the pieces rather than rushing past them.
If Cairo is on your list and you only have one free day, yes. You see the three things most people come for, with a private guide and no waiting for a group. The cost is time: it's a very long day, so it suits adults and older children who can handle hours in a car. If that sounds like too much, look at our [by-bus day trip] [verify link] or [the two-day Cairo and Alexandria trip] [verify link], which break the journey up.
Passport or valid ID (checked at the entrances), comfortable closed shoes, light layers for the cool early morning and evening, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a little cash in Egyptian pounds for restrooms and small purchases. If you get carsick, take your usual tablet before leaving.
