Abu Dabbab Bay is located about 30 kilometers north of Marsa Alam on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast. From Soma Bay, the drive takes around three hours by air-conditioned vehicle, offering beautiful coastal views along the way.
Abu Dabbab is one of Egypt’s most famous snorkeling and diving sites because it’s one of the few places in the Red Sea where you can regularly spot green sea turtles and sometimes the rare dugong. The bay’s twin reefs, calm shallow waters, and fine sandy beach make it perfect for snorkelers of all levels.
Not at all. The waters of Abu Dabbab are calm and shallow, making them suitable for beginners, children, and non-swimmers. Your snorkeling guide will always be nearby to help you feel safe and comfortable in the water.
Yes. Snorkeling gear — mask, snorkel, and fins — is included in the tour price. If you prefer, you can bring your own equipment for a perfect fit and comfort.
While sea turtles are often seen in Abu Dabbab Bay, the dugong is a rare and elusive marine mammal, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, joining the optional Zodiac “Search for Dugong” increases your chances of spotting one in deeper waters.
Bring your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, and camera or GoPro for underwater photos. It’s also a good idea to bring some cash for optional activities, tips, or souvenirs.

Absolutely! The Abu Dabbab Bay trip is family-friendly. The gentle beach entry and shallow waters make it safe for children. Kids under 10 enjoy a reduced rate.
Pickup from Soma Bay hotels usually starts around 6:00 AM, and you’ll return around 4:00–5:00 PM, depending on traffic and your exact hotel location.
Yes. Certified divers can add an optional guided beach dive (40 USD per dive) or a speedboat dive (extra 35 USD) to explore the deeper reefs of Abu Dabbab.
It’s a 2-hour speedboat excursion (approximately 45 EUR per person) that takes you beyond the bay to areas where dugongs and larger marine creatures are more commonly spotted. It’s an optional add-on, but highly recommended for adventure lovers.
