Makadi Bay Tours

All tours from Makadi Bay

Calm water, islands & a day in Luxor

Makadi Bay is a quiet resort bay about half an hour south of Hurghada, with sheltered water and a reef that starts right off the hotel beaches. It is an easy base for families: the sea trips are short, the boats leave from close by, and you are back at the pool by late afternoon. From here you can spend a day on the white sand of the offshore islands, look for dolphins on a boat or speedboat trip, try a first dive or a parasail ride, or go fishing with a local crew.

On land there are quad and jeep safaris into the desert behind the coast, horse rides, and city tours of Hurghada. Luxor is about four hours away by road, close enough for a full day at Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, and Cairo and Aswan can be reached on longer trips. On this page you will find all our Makadi Bay tours sorted by type: island and beach trips, snorkeling, dolphin trips, desert safaris, historical tours to Luxor and Cairo, and private trips.

Makadi Bay Excursions: Questions Travelers Ask Us

Short answers from our team.

What are the best excursions to take from Makadi Bay?

Most guests start with a day on the islands: white sand, shallow water and two or three snorkel stops on the way. A dolphin trip is the next favourite, either on a group boat or on a private speedboat. For something different from the sea, a quad safari in the late afternoon gets you into the desert just as the light turns golden. And if you have a free day, Luxor is the trip to take: Karnak and the Valley of the Kings are about four hours away. See all island trips, dolphin trips and Luxor tours from Makadi Bay.

Can I visit Luxor or Cairo from Makadi Bay?

Yes. Luxor is about four hours each way by road through Safaga and Qena, so the day starts early and you are back in the evening. The usual plan covers Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Cairo and Aswan are further, around six hours by road, so check each trip page to see how the journey is organised and how long it takes. See all Luxor tours and Cairo tours from Makadi Bay.

Where can I see dolphins near Makadi Bay?

Most dolphin trips go to the Dolphin House, a reef where a resident pod of spinner dolphins is often seen. You can go on a group boat, which includes snorkel stops and lunch, or on a private speedboat, which is faster and leaves when you want. Sightings are likely but never guaranteed, and the crew keeps a respectful distance so the dolphins are free to come closer. See our dolphin trips and speedboat trips from Makadi Bay.

Which Makadi Bay activities are good for children?

Young children usually enjoy the semi-submarine and the glass boat most, because they see the fish without getting wet. An island day works well too, with calm, shallow water around the beach. Our family-friendly tours collect easy outings such as the Grand Aquarium in Hurghada. Luxor and Cairo mean long hours on the road, so they suit older kids better. See our family-friendly tours and submarine and glass boat trips.

Can I dive or go parasailing with no experience?

Yes, both are made for first-timers. An intro dive needs no licence: an instructor explains the equipment, stays next to you the whole time and takes you down to a shallow reef. Parasailing needs no experience either. You are strapped into a harness on the boat, fly for a few minutes over the bay, and land back on the deck, alone or together with someone. See our diving tours and parasailing in Makadi Bay.
