The super safari in Sharm El Sheikh is an afternoon and evening desert trip that combines five experiences: a quad bike ride, a camel ride, sunset over the Sinai mountains, a Bedouin dinner with a live Oriental show, and stargazing through professional telescopes. Pickup is between 15:00 and 16:00 depending on the season, and quad biking needs no experience because the bikes are automatic.
The stargazing session with a local astronomer is what sets this desert safari apart. Many super safari tours stop after the show, or charge extra for the telescopes. Here it’s part of the evening.
Sharm El Sheikh sits on the edge of the South Sinai desert, and within a short drive of the hotels you’re among sand plains, dry valleys and bare granite mountains. The super safari is timed to use the best part of the desert day: the ride in the late afternoon, the sunset from a hilltop, and the night sky once it gets dark.
The quad ride comes first, while there’s still light. After that the pace slows with a camel ride and a stop at a Bedouin camp for tea. You watch the sun go down over the valley, then settle in for dinner, music and dance. The evening ends away from the lights of the resorts, looking at the Moon and planets through a telescope.
Local tip: the desert cools down quickly after sunset, especially from November to March. Bring a light jacket even if it’s hot when you leave the hotel.
At the quad center, your instructor fits your helmet and shows you how to drive. The bikes are fully automatic, so you just steer, accelerate and brake. You start slowly on flat sand, then pick up speed over dunes and through valleys between the mountains, with the guide leading the group.
After the quads, you swap engines for a camel and ride at an easy pace to the Bedouin camp. It’s a short ride, often in the soft light of late afternoon, and a good chance for photos.
At the camp you sit on carpets in a Bedouin tent with a glass of tea brewed with habak, the wild mint of Sinai. Then you climb a small hill to watch the sun set over the Wadi Mandar valley as the mountains turn pink and red.
Dinner is a buffet cooked over an open fire: grilled meat, rice, salads and freshly baked Bedouin bread. After dinner, the show begins with belly dancing, a Tanoura spinning dancer and fire performers. You’re welcome to join the dancing.
When the music ends, a local astronomer sets up telescopes and guides you through the night sky. Depending on the season and the Moon, you may see the craters of the Moon, Saturn’s rings or Mars. With no city lights around, the desert sky is far darker than anything you’ll see from your hotel.

An air-conditioned vehicle collects you from your hotel. The exact time depends on the season and is set so you reach the desert while it's still light.
At the quad center you get your helmet and a short driving lesson, then set off behind the guide across the desert.
You continue by camel to the Bedouin camp, where tea with Sinai mint is waiting in the tent.
From a small hill near the camp, you watch the sun go down over Wadi Mandar.
Back at the camp, dinner is served as a buffet, followed by belly dancing, Tanoura and a fire show.
The evening ends with the astronomer and the telescopes, before the drive back to your hotel.
