Sataya — often called “Dolphin Reef” — is one of the Red Sea’s most famous spots for close, natural encounters with large schools of spinner dolphins. The reef’s sheltered lagoons, clear water and abundant marine life make it ideal for snorkeling: coral gardens, colorful reef fish and, if you’re lucky, a joyous pod of 60–80 dolphins that may spin and glide around you. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime rush — but done best with respect and a calm heart.

A: Sataya is home to large spinner dolphin pods and sightings are common, though wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed. The chance is high but not absolute.
Q: Is the water safe for beginners?
A: Yes — snorkeling stops are measured; life vests available; crew provides guidance. Beginners should be comfortable floating and following instructions.
Q: Can I scuba dive instead?
A: Some operators can arrange diving or tandem dives but this is usually an extra service; check availability in advance.
Q: How long is the boat ride?
A: From Hamata harbour to Sataya expect roughly 2–3 hours of sailing; times vary with sea conditions.
Q: What is the national park fee?
A: A small fee is usually collected locally at Hamata or on arrival to the protected area — bring small cash.
Q: What if weather cancels the trip?
A: In rough seas operators normally postpone or refund — safety is the priority. Confirm the operator’s policy at booking.
Q: Can I bring my own snorkel gear?
A: Yes — personal masks/snorkels are welcome and sometimes preferred; consider masks that fit well to prevent leaks.
